News

We’ve decided to move the finish time for ‘post pack’ back by a few hours… just to give everyone that last minute chance.

So get in before the whole thing is over… what am I talking about ?  Go and have a look Here!

Oh!  I almost forgot, we got a little snippet of an entry into the MOCO pages about the exhibition… head over to http://www.mocoloco.com/art/  to check it out!

It’s been long over due, but at last I can post another news item here about our next exhibition.

If you had thought we must have evaporated here in the desert sun, you would be forgiven.  It has been quite a while since the last exhibition (yes ok - the first exhibition) closed.  After that, a heap of various things happened but none of them eventuated into an actual exhibition happening.

That all changed the day Cynthia Ellis wondered through our doors and mentioned “post pack?”  I said post what?
Then I saw her work and I exclaimed “Post Pak!”  ooops I mean “post pack!”  (careful! no capitals & not the spelling you may think)  From that day on it’s been an interesting journey to this day, and I know Cynthia would consider that journey as an important part of the art.

You’ve no doubt seen the front page, so you have a glimpse of what’s install.  But I can say there’s more to it than just thick paint.  As Cynthia puts it herself, showing her work art in the Feather Gallery adds something new to the art showing/buying/receiving process for you and her.  So the fact that you will receive the painting in a ‘post pack’ is an important part of the process… the expectation, anticipation, and finally the receivation (the excitement of receiving something in the post) that you feel is part of the experience she wants for you.

So, look forward to investigating the exhibition further the way you might look forward to that parcel in the post - and we look forward to having you at the gallery in the same way.

post pack is opening on the 1st of August 2007 and running for 4 weeks.

Time has been warped here at the gallery, like the gallery itself; we are not quite sure if the time passing is real or not.  However, we have to face facts and admit that almost a year has whooshed by from when this gallery was first planted on the desert floor.

Time again to renew our efforts to find another artist to show here.  This time we’re looking for an Australian Digital Artist.  We approached a digital artist from around the world, and although at first it looked promising, nothing has eventuated.

What to do next?

Our plan is to firstly refine our approach.  Spell out exactly how this gallery works for a potential artist, and for everyone else. Second stage is to search (the web mainly) for people who would like to show their work here and hopefully sell it as well!  Since we are based in Australia, it makes sense to start with artists here.  Added to that, we don’t care exactly just how much experience the artist has got.  If there’s something special in the art, then that’s all that counts.

To help get an idea of the artist we would like to show, here, here, here and here are some links to website showing art we are interested in.  Finding a local that does digital art in same vein is our main goal.  Short of that, we are always open to suggestions!  Nominate an artist today!  But please… digital is the topic of the day.  Traditional can wait till next time.

Soon well add another news item here that will cover the process we plan on using to display and sell the art from the point of view of the artist.

Well it’s been a resting period for us at The Feather Gallery. Although, it has been a restless break - for time spent doing nothing - we have been very busy? Kicking salt around I guess!

The search has begun in earnest again for another artist to show. Feel free to make suggestions! We have a few in mind, but it’s best not to count chickens before they are even eggs at all.

Just a short message for now, but look out for another Podcast from Miles! He’ll continue discussing some more of his art that has been left hanging up here until we find something to replace it. Take a look, much of is still available to buy!

Stay tuned!
The Feather Gallery

There is now less than 24hr to make a bid on the first auction at the gallery. Yes! bidding has been slow, but as anybody who has ever bided on eBay knows, all the action happens in the last few seconds. Well we hope so anyway.

Whatever happens, it will be fun. More importantly, we have a few thoughts on our next artist, only they don’t know it yet. But for sure it will be someone working in the digital realm. The moment we can confirm someone, we’ll be up here with the news.

Have you listened to Miles talk his way through a podcasts yet? They have been a bit dicey of late; conditions around here at the gallery have been hectic lately. The planned podcast for today might have to wait till later, but they wont stop!

So what happens at the gallery after tomorrow? Well for the time being the gallery will continue to be open and showing Miles’s works as usual, although the auction will have finished. Obviously, the unsold works will be available to buy. But only at the listed price that will go up after the auction. They will be priced much higher than they are currently! Eventually the new show will be ready, and will go up and all this will start over again.

Well that’s the plan.

Now go over and have a look at the green link on the side!

The new development here at The Feather Gallery is that of the Podcast! Miles has put together the first ever Late Night Art Show podcast.

You can see all the podcasts so far here. We will put a full time link to those on the main page soon.

For those who are unaware of what a Podcast is, here’s a little rundown.

Firstly, they’re not as fancy as they sound. The name comes from those ubiquitous iPods MP3 players. Mp3’s are your typical sound or music computer file, and iPods and all other MP3 players, play the files so you can here them on the road at the gym or where ever. You can also listen to the MP3’s on your computer, which would be best for the Late Night Art Show?but we?ll get to that in a minute.

This is all old news I’m sure, however, it gets us to what a Podcast is. It’s just a MP3 file! Usually they are free to download and play. They?re structured more like a radio show, but not as formal for the most part. Some can be just a few minutes long, some can be an hour long or more. Many are educational, funny, informative or dramatic.

So what?s the point? Well you could just listen to the radio, but you have to be there at the right time. With a podcast you listen when you want. The good bit is, that once you subscribe to a podcast using a podcast subscription program (you will have to install that if you want to use this feature), your computer will be told when new episodes of your favourite podcast are ready to download and download them automatically for you, ready to listen to the next time you sit in front of the computer or connect your mp3 player up.

Getting back to the Late Night Art Show, it?s a podcast where you can here the artist currently exhibiting at The Feather Gallery talk about their own art. Each podcast will feature the artist talking about at least 3 of their paintings currently on display and for auction in the gallery. You can listen to the podcast and look at the gallery at the same time, seeing the artworks as you hear about them. That is why it would be best to listen to this podcast in front of the computer.

As usual, we would love to hear feedback about this feature. So if you have any comments just drop us a line.

Now go on and have a listen. We hope you enjoy hearing about the art.

We can safely say that the gallery is on its way!

Bids are being placed for paintings, admittedly only a few so far, but it’s a start.

The other news is that The Feather Gallery has been favourably reviewed in an article on the web. Well we like to call it an article although others may see it as a blog entry; but it still counts!!

The link

The article is by Richard Wright – admittedly a good friend to the gallery, Richard runs a software development company – Midnight Software Solutions. From the sound of it, you shouldn’t be calling Richard up around midnight – he’s probably busy.

In any case he’s been a great help over here at the gallery, with some very useful pointers. The sort of help every gallery needs, usually to do paintings on a slant, but not to mention quite significant tips during the development stages of the gallery and this website.

So what’s next?

That’s a good question. The answer is; something certainly is next, but that will have to wait for another podc.. oops, I mean news story.

With the lights on!
Everything is all but ready for our big opening tomorrow night! The paintings are ready, we’ll be hanging them in the morning, some last minute cleaning and a few signs to go up. Getting the champagne chilled, everything ready for official opening at 5pm tomorrow.
Can’t wait, hope to see you there!

I better get back to it, still a few more things to do tonight.

Today I did a slow walk around the gallery as the sun was going down. Hopefully it gives you a good idea of what the gallery looks like from all angles. Didn’t catch the sunset itself, but notice how the walls change colour as it gets dark. It’s quite strange they almost glow.

Finished - or is it?
As with all things, for a moment we sat back this afternoon and thought ‘it’s finished!’ Had a drink, marveled at all the hard work and fine craftsmanship. Eventually, thoughts turn to what is left to do, in no time we had a long list. Still, we’re all pretty happy with the result so far.
